About the Society
The Society was founded in 1884. It is a learned
society whose key objective is to support the communication
of scientific knowledge about dependence on alcohol, nicotine
and other drugs. It aims to encourage the systematic study
of dependence and to promote policy analysis.
The Society has an international membership
and is open to individual practitioners, researchers and policy
makers working in its field.
The Society publishes two prestigious journals
as well as research
monographs. It organises symposia and workshops. This
Web Site is under development and it is proposed in the near
future to set up an Internet bulletin board for members to
exchange ideas and request information.
These are exciting times for the Society and we are keen to
widen the membership to enable as many people as possible
to benefit from a thriving and active addiction community.
Enhancement of the administrative and handling
processes
New Executive Office in Leeds
Your membership is now handled by the new Executive
Office in Leeds, where the President and the Executive Officer
are based. There is also a dedicated membership administrator
who will process applications and address your enquiries.
What this means to you
The Society will now hold all personal and professional
information provided by you for the benefit and sole use of
the Society. This information is kept on a secure database
that cannot be accessed by any other party and will not be
passed on to any other party except for the purpose of mailing
your journal copies to you. Your personal copy of the journals
will be posted to you directly by the publisher. Mailing information
is not held by the publisher and remains the property of the
SSA.
A better deal...
For the current annual membership fee of £85

their membership subscription. Compare this with the cost
a personal subscription to Addiction (£335) or Addiction
Biology (£244) to see just how valuable this new benefit
is.
And as ever, membership also offers...

Symposium, with opportunities for personal interaction with
other members and an invitation to present your own work.
- An opportunity for your personal involvement
in the Society's ongoing work
- Access to the Society library at the Wellcome
