Apply for a bursary to attend the Annual Conference as a helper

You can now apply for a bursary of up to £200 to attend the SSA’s Annual Conference in Newcastle on Thursday 9 November and Friday 10 November 2023. Complete the form below if you are a PhD student and Associate or Member of the SSA, and would be willing to help across the two days of the conference. If you do not meet these criteria, please check our other supported-place bursaries, which are aimed at third-sector service users, volunteers, and employees, and people who are unwaged undergraduate or master’s students

This funding scheme aims to support PhD students who would be willing to help with the SSA’s two-day conference, for example by welcoming delegates, stewarding, hosting small gatherings, evaluating the conference, and organising poster sessions. This is an established role, valued for helping us run the conference, and for which we seek innovative and helpful input from people who are able to attend both days of the conference.

If you receive the bursary, the SSA will waive the conference ticket price, fund up to £200 towards the cost of travelling to the conference, and provide two nights’ accommodation in the conference hotel.

In order to apply you must be:
a PhD student
an Associate or Member of the SSA

Complete the form below by Monday 17 July 2023 at 6pm (BST). You can expect a decision about the bursary in late August / early September.
