Deliver an oral presentation at the Annual Conference

You can now apply to give a presentation at the SSA’s Annual Conference in Newcastle on Thursday 9 November and Friday 10 November 2023. Complete the form below by 18:00 (BST) on 3 July 2023.

The SSA’s Annual Conference is our opportunity to showcase research and promote the scientific understanding of addiction. If you would like to share the findings and implications of your work with a room of engaged researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, please consider completing an application below. We are also accepting applications for poster presentations until 14 August 2023.

What do I need to know before applying?

  • We will ask you to include an abstract that describes the scope of your presentation. It should be a maximum of 250 words and feature the following headings: background/aims; methods; results; and conclusions.
  • You can expect to hear back from us about your application in the second week of August, and then you will be expected to register for the conference by 6 October 2023.

What can I expect if my application is successful?

  • We will ask you to provide a short biography that we can use to publicise the conference (e.g. on the website, in the conference programme, and on social media).
  • You will be allocated to a session in the conference programme based on the theme of your presentation. You will have approximately 10 minutes to present and will also have the opportunity to answer questions from the audience at the end of the session.

  • Please provide an ethics committee reference number and brief details, or explain why ethical approval was not sought.
