  • Propose a Symposium

    Call for submissions for symposia focusing on New Developments and Current Topics in Addictions.

    In addition to our established delegates' sessions, there will be up to four symposia funded by the SSA.

    The deadline for submission for programme symposia is 3 February, 2019.

    Successful submissions will be notified by the end of March 2019.

  • Guidelines

    To ensure your submission meets the criteria for consideration, please read through the following information carefully before submitting your proposal:

    • Each symposium lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and should integrate any or all of the latest advances in theoretical, social, clinical and policy aspects across any of the full range of addiction topics;
    • Each presenter will be allocated 20 minutes, followed by a 15 minute panel discussion to end the symposium;
    • Proposals that include service users, younger speakers and contributors from a diverse range of backgrounds are encouraged;
    • Names and affiliations of three speakers should be submitted together with a (max.) 300 word abstract which describes the overarching aims and content of the three talks;
    • An individual lay abstract from each speaker will be required after successful groups have been notified;
    • The organiser must also be one of the speakers;
    • The organiser who submits the proposal must be a member of the SSA (the other speakers need not be members of the SSA)

    (Max. 300 words).
  • Please give details of expected travel and accommodation requirements and estimated costs.
  • Processes

    Please also read the following information carefully before submitting your proposal:

    • Symposia will be chosen on a competitive basis by the Conference scientific committee in Spring 2019;
    • Organisers can submit no more than two symposia;
    • The SSA Conference committee will select a Chair-person for the symposium;
    • Confirmation that all suggested speakers are willing to participate on 7 & 8 November 2019 is required;
    • The title of the symposium and speakers' titles will be published as per original submission and cannot be changed after acceptance;
    • Accepted symposia will require an abstract from individual speakers;
    • The SSA will pay for economy class travel, conference registration and accommodation for up to two nights for all speakers (as appropriate);
    • All non-successful symposium speakers will be able to submit an abstract for a delegate presentation.
