  • Propose a Symposium

    Call for submissions for sessions focusing on New Developments and Current Topics in Addictions.

    In addition to our established delegates' sessions, at our 2017 Conference there will be up to four sessions funded by the SSA.

    The deadline for submission for programme sessions is 10 February, 2017.

    Successful submissions will be notified by 20 March, 2017 and will need to confirm acceptance by 30 March, 2017.

  • Guidelines

    To ensure your submission meets the criteria for acceptance, please read through the following information carefully before submitting your proposal:

    • Each session lasts 1 hour 30 minutes and should integrate any or all of the latest advances in theoretical, social, clinical and policy aspects across any of the full range of addiction topics;
    • Sessions will be chosen on a competitive basis by the Conference scientific committee in Spring 2017;
    • Names and affiliations of three speakers, and the chairperson, should be submitted together with a (max.) 300 word abstract which describes the overarching aims of the session and what delegates will learn during the session;
    • The individual who submits the proposal must be chair of the session (they may also be a speaker) and a member of the SSA (the other speakers need not be members of the SSA);
    • Proposals that include service users and younger speakers are encouraged;
    • Chairpersons can submit no more than two sessions;
    • Confirmation that all suggested speakers are willing to participate on 9 & 10 November 2017 is required;
    • Title of the session and speakers titles will be published as per original submission and cannot be changed after acceptance;
    • The SSA will pay for economy class travel, conference registration and accommodation for up to two nights for all speakers (as appropriate);
    • All non-successful session speakers will have the option of being considered to present as a delegate.
