Supported Presenter Application: For students wishing to present an oral paper or a poster

We are offering up to £200 per applicant to support unwaged Undergraduate or Masters students who are otherwise unable to afford to attend or travel to the SSA’s Annual Conference to present their poster or paper. If your application is successful we will waive your delegate fee and contribute up to £200 towards your travel and/or accommodation expenses. A maximum of five awards are made each year.

The awards will be made in late August / early September.

Deadline for receipt of applications is 24:00 (BST) Sunday, 17 July 2022.

  • Where an award is made it is on the bases: 

    1) that best value accommodation is sought, and that this will be capped at the level of the conference hotel; and

    2) that where possible economy travel options are booked well in advance of the date of travel.

    The total amount that can be claimed by any supported delegate is £200, and justification for the amount claimed must be made and itemised, and receipts provided. A standard expenses claim form will be required from each claimant (SSA Expenses Policy and Claim Form).

  • Application deadline

    Applications, from current students in the addiction field, must be submitted using the online form, with supporting documents attached, by the closing date of 17 July 2022.

    If successful

    Applicants agree that if successful they will submit a report to the SSA after the event (copy to graham@addiction-ssa.org & martin@addiction-ssa.org). Details of expenses which applicants would like to be refunded should be estimated and submitted to us in advance, and after they have been approved and incurrred, emailed with copies of all receipts to the above using our standard claim form.

    (The organising committee reserves the right, at its discretion, to cap the amount granted towards travel expenses.)

    Application assessment

    Applications will be reviewed by the organising committee after the deadline and applicants will be informed of the decision by email in late August or early September.

    1. Letter from tutor/line manager to confirm organisational support of the proposed attendance. This is essential to the processing of the application, including their confirmation that study leave will be granted if application is successful

    2. Expected budget for travel

    3. Copy of submitted abstract if making a presentation/poster
