Supported Delegate Application: Third-sector / Service-user

We are offering bursaries to support service-users, or those who volunteer or work in the third-sector* and who have an abstract accepted for presentation at our Conference.

A limited number of support bursaries are available. Each successful applicant can reclaim up to £200 costs for travel and accommodation to attend the Annual Conference to present their poster or paper. Their delegate fee will also be waived.

Deadline for receipt of applications is 24:00 (BST) Sunday, 17 July 2022.

*‘Third-sector’ organisations include registered charities, not-for-profit organisations and self-help / community groups. If you are not sure whether this applies to you, please contact us.

    Applicants agree that if successful they will submit a report to the SSA after the event (copy to & Details of expenses which applicants would like to be refunded should be estimated and submitted to us in advance, and after they have been approved and incurrred, emailed with copies of all receipts to the above using our standard claim form.

    (The organising committee reserves the right, at its discretion, to cap the amount granted towards travel expenses.)

    Application assessment

    Applications will be reviewed by the organising committee after the deadline and applicants will be informed of the decision by email in late August or early September.

    Please apply using this form and ensure the following are attached:

    1. Letter* from line manager to confirm organisational support of the proposed attendance. This is important to assessment of the application.

    2. Expected budget for travel

    3. Whether funding towards accommodation would be required

    4. Details of submitted abstract for presentation

    *This letter should show:

    - The benefit to the applicant or organisation;

    - The employer/manager’s position regarding funding, and the applicant's need for support;

    - Support for the time required to prepare and attend the Conference;

    - An opinion of the applicant’s ability to complete the activity.


    Where an award is made it is on the bases: 

    1) that best value accommodation is sought, and that this will be capped at the level of the conference hotel; and 

    2) that where possible economy travel options are booked well in advance of the date of travel.

    The total amount that can be claimed by any supported delegate is £200, and justification for the amount claimed must be made and itemised, and receipts provided. A standard expenses claim form will be required from each claimant (SSA Expenses Policy and Claim Form).
