Tickets are now on sale for the SSA’s Annual Conference – the UK’s foremost gathering of addiction researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and experts by experience. Learn more about the benefits of booking early, the different rates for members and non-members, and the support available for students and people from third-sector organisations.
The Annual Conference is an opportunity to celebrate excellence in addiction science. The 2025 event attracted a record number of almost 300 delegates from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Kosovo, Mexico, Norway, Romania, Russia, Singapore, and the US, as well as from around the UK.
The next Annual Conference will take place on Thursday 12 November and Friday 13 November 2026 in Newcastle upon Tyne. If you would like to attend, now is a great time to start planning your trip:
- Early-bird tickets are on sale until 24 September, offering discounts of up to £100.
- If you are a student or from a third-sector organisation, you could be eligible for support towards the cost of the ticket, travel, and accommodation.
Buying your ticket
The price guide below shows the costs for different types of delegates, and the benefits of booking now (buying an early-bird ticket) versus booking later (buying a full-price ticket).
| Early-bird tickets | Full-price tickets | |
|---|---|---|
| Non-members | £342 | £446 |
| Members | £248 | £353 |
| Student associates | £104 | £127 |
| Students/unwaged | £132 | £154 |
SSA members get a considerable discount on the price of their tickets. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining. One year’s membership costs £85, so you would recoup this in the price of the ticket, plus receive other membership benefits including free online access to Addiction and Addiction Biology.
Reserve your place at the Annual Conference using the online booking form. Use the enquiry form if you have any questions.
Getting help with the cost of attending
The SSA offers a limited number of ‘supported places’ each year to support people who would like to attend the Annual Conference, but who would find it difficult due to the cost of the ticket, travel, and accommodation. A supported place covers the cost of the conference ticket, and up to £200 towards travel and accommodation.
The following groups of people are encouraged to apply:
- undergraduate or master’s students who are currently ‘unwaged’ (e.g. not in paid work, retired) and have applied or will apply to deliver an oral or poster presentation at the conference
- people from third-sector substance use or gambling organisations (e.g. volunteers, workers, or service users)
The SSA would also be happy to receive applications from people in other circumstances that aren’t covered above.
