Addiction journal is looking to appoint Associate Editors with expertise in gambling research. Apply by 1 November 2026

About the role

Associate Editors are asked to handle about six article submissions each year. They receive manuscripts from a Senior Editor, identify suitable referees, evaluate and synthesise their reports, and make an assessment and a recommendation to the Senior Editor. Submissions are managed through Research Exchange (ReX), and all editorial work is conducted through this system.

Expertise in addiction science and substantial experience of peer review are essential for this role. Previous experience of publishing in or reviewing for Addiction is desirable.

In recognition of their contribution, Associate Editors receive online subscriptions to Addiction and Addiction Biology. The Society for the Study of Addiction also offers free associateship to all Associate Editors.

A note on conflicts of interests

Applicants must be able to demonstrate editorial independence from the gambling industry and from organisations materially linked to it. For this purpose, the gambling industry includes organisations that design, manufacture, provide, operate, distribute, market, promote, or sell gambling products or services, including lottery products and services. Gambling industry-linked organisations include trade associations, industry social-aspect organisations, and consultancies or other intermediaries acting for, commissioned by, governed by, or materially funded by the gambling industry or its representative bodies.

Current or recent financial or professional relationships with these organisations will not necessarily preclude appointment, but all relevant relationships must be disclosed. Eligibility will be considered case by case, taking into account: the nature, timing, and purpose of the relationship; the source and governance of any funding; the degree of industry involvement or influence; and whether the relationship could create a real or reasonably perceived risk to editorial independence.

How to apply

Please send your CV and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role to Florence Wissler (florence@addictionjournal.org). The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 November 2026.
