Professor of Addiction Biology
Professor Anne Lingford-Hughes is the newly appointed Professor of Addiction Biology at Imperial College, London. She was previously at the University of Bristol working in Professor Nutt’s Psychopharmacology Unit for a decade. Her clinical work since 2000 has focused on treating alcohol misuse and comorbidity with mental health disorders. She graduated in medicine from Oxford University, completed her PhD at Cambridge University, and trained in psychiatry at The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospitals and Institute of Psychiatry. Her research has focused on using PET and SPET neuroimaging to characterize the neurobiology of addiction, particularly alcoholism and opiate addiction. In addition she has led or contributed to several clinical guidelines including those for the British Association for Psychopharmacology and NICE. She is about to begin a trial comparing different medication regimens to treat alcohol detoxification to investigate whether symptoms can be controlled better and risk of brain toxicity reduced.
